Hi and welcome to my family genealogy website. I hope you enjoy your visit.
Please be aware that upon logging in it will take a few minutes for the program to index the pictures in the database. I am working with the developer to reduce this time.
This database is created from years of research. Much of it from online resources, but also includes “old-fashion” in person research. Much of the “old-fashion” research was done by my Aunts. But I have also spent some time in the libraries and such. I have spent over 20 years so far working on the family's genealogy. It is still a work in progress as I find it is never-ending due to the fact that I go beyond just my direct line. I am also interested in what lies in the branches of my family tree. I find this to be extremely fascinating.
The old saying "kissing cousins" is so true in my family and I find in most others as well. But I also found that there is a reason for this close kinship. When the choices for a husband or wife were fewer and/or too distant, selecting from cousins was the alternative. Yet, this was nothing new really. This inter-marrying had been in practice for what seems to have been forever. In today's society it has all but disappeared.
A funny tidbit, I was the one in history class who told my teacher -- "I will never need to know anything about history!". Of course, now I find it fascinating. At the time I was only interested in Theatre, Music, and Dance. However, I know now that history is good to know for those fields of study as well.
History is more than just learning dates of events. It is about learning the why and the reasoning behind their actions. Looking into the past to see what the people of those times were dreaming about the future. What they did, what they created and invented for the future. It reminds me of the old school rule - the 5 W’s. Who, What, When, Where and Why.
H.A.W.K.S is an acronym for our family names. We use it to title our family reunions also.
It stands for - Hightower,(and) Whittenburg, Kern('s)
